Just about everyone has heard of epidurals. They are typically used during labor and delivery to reduce or eliminate associated pain of labor and delivery. Epidurals can also be used for interventional pain management. Epidural steroid injection may be used to treat radicular pain and inflammation caused by such conditions as spinal disc herniation, degenerative disc disease, post laminectomy syndrome, and spinal stenosis. Steroids may be injected at the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, or caudal/sacral levels, depending on the specific area where the pathology (disease, condition, or injury) is located. There is no spinal cord contact.
